Following on from last year’s success, The Belvedere College S.J. Open Sponsored Cycle will take place on Sunday, 3rd October 2010. Similar to 2009, there will be both a 100k and 20k route. The shorter route will take the cyclists from Cabra through the Phoenix Park, while the 100k route to Ashbourne, Dunshaughlin and Dunboyne, promises an even more challenging expedition.
The event is open to cyclists of all levels and promises to be an exhilarating and rewarding experience. It is a wonderful opportunity for past pupils, parents, students and friends of the College to raise much needed funds for both The Science & Technology Appeal and The Social Integration Scheme.
The cycle will start and finish in the college sports grounds, Navan Road, Cabra.
100k Start Time: 9.30am
20k Start Time: 12.30pm

Our fundraising causes...
The Social Integration Scheme
Belvedere College S.J’s unique character is infused by the Jesuits mission of developing ‘men for others.’ This mission combined also with the College’s steadfast loyalty to the inner city in which it resides, inspired the creation of the College’s unique Social Integration Scheme, or SIS, which has provided places for students from all over Dublin, who could not otherwise attend the College due to financial and social barriers.
The scheme is based on the willingness of the child to participate in all that the college has to offer, while accepting that financial or social barriers are exempting the child from attending. Once accepted onto the Scheme, the child simply becomes another student in the College, sharing the same values as the whole student body.
In 1986 the Social Integration Scheme was formalised and since then over 140 boys have graduated through this Scheme. Currently the SIS provides a 6 year education for 8% of students. Your help is vital in raising funds and maintaining this worthwhile educational programme within the College.
The Science & Technology Appeal
Within The Science & Technology Block, Belvedere now has a real centre of excellence in science and IT education, achieved by the support of past families, past pupils, current parents and fundraising activities. The building is a four storey cornucopia of modern education, including six new Science laboratories, an IT room, project room and dark room, a Science library, a university-style lecture theatre and a greenhouse.
The Science & Technology Block has had a very positive impact on the life of the College. The teaching and learning environment has improved further and the uptake of the sciences and results in the subjects at national exam level are increasing each year.
To date we have raised a massive €7m of our €7.4m target.
Please do not allow the momentum of the campaign to stall by raising what you can and simultaneously enjoying the challenge of the Cycle
