Liturgical Music in Belvedere

The Liturgical Music Group, directed by Mr. David O’Hanlon has had a very busy start to the year. The first date on the calendar was a momentous one; the Mass on the Occasion of the visit of Fr Adolfo Nicolas SJ, Superior General Of The Society Of Jesus. This historic event took place on Sunday September 13th in Gardiner Street Church with the Gardiner Street Choir also singing at the mass. The psalm, which was written by Mr. David O’Hanlon was sung by Seán Boylan from Rhetoric and was accompanied by the Liturgical Group. They also performed Take, Lord, Receive with Stephen Mahady from Syntax performing the solo.

The next event at which the Liturgical Group performed was the Annual Opening School Mass on Wednesday September 23rd. Here they performed a selection of Taizé music as well as By Straight Paths and The Psalm, The Lord Will Keep You From All Harm with Seán Boylan as soloist once again. In a new development, Austin O’Halloran, (Poetry) acted as cantor for the musical responses. The mass finished on a traditional note with the group singing the School Anthem Only in God.

Additionally members of the liturgical group, namely Dónal Brennan, Chris Hayes and Jim Conell Moylan performed for Father Neary’s Eleven O’ Clock Mass on Thursday the 8th October during their triple Poetry Religion Mass after an invitation by Ms. Barden. They opened the service which took place in Gardiner Street Church with a rendition of By Straight Paths and continued with the performance of Jesus Christ, Bread of Life during the communion and completed the Mass with the customary hymn, Only in God. A week later, on Friday the 16th of October, the Mass celebrating the 1959 reunion was enhanced by the beautiful music of Chris Hayes, Dónal Brennan, Ryan Hargadon and Seán Boylan.
