Challenge For Junior and Senior Cycle

First - Third Years
As mentioned last week, Renaissance Learning have made 1,000's of titles free during the time that schools are closed.  We’ve come up with a reading challenge to get you started.  Feel free to post reviews, or good finds that you discovered yourself, to the library pages so that others can benefit from them.  The challenge suggestions as seen below are on the library page on the College website found HERE.

The link to myOn can be found HERE.  And the full link to all the material can be found HERE.

Fourth - Sixth Years
Maybe now’s the time to pick up something you wouldn’t normally choose to read? Classics come in many forms and to be fair, the definition of ‘classic’ can be very subjective.  However, there are some books that have not only stood the test of time, but are still as good in 2020 as they were when they were first published.  Check out the Senior challenge list on the library page on the school website found HERE and make some of them part of your downtime.

And finally…

Do you have a story with a water theme – a story that simply must be told? Here is your opportunity to tell it! There are two formats that you can choose from 1: The Storyteller Tells that Story or 2: Interview of a Storyteller. Also the story can have either of these two themes 1: Memories and Reflection or 2: Folklore and Stories.

The competition is open to all, with two categories: Under-18s and Over-18s, so everyone at home can give it a go! Stories need to be 600 words or less and entries may be submitted in either English or Irish, so if you feel like brushing up on your gaeilge writing, this could be your chance. The closing date for entries is 31st May 2020 and there are 10 Prizes worth €300 each and an additional 10 prizes worth €100 each.  Further details available from the Local Authorities Waters Programme.

For younger kids in the house, National Geographic Kids is a super resource. The magazine contains a superb blend of photos, fun facts, and articles presented in a cheery style, making it perfect for keeping kids' attention. And, if I’m perfectly frank, possibly ours!

For more serious geographers, Leaving Cert notes and material are covered really well by LeavingCertGeography.  Exam prep, notes etc all available HERE.
