DCUtv 24 Hour Broadcast

Homelessness (Peter McVerry Trust) Took Place Fri. 2nd Dec.

Hi all,

An event that I have put my heart and soul into begins tonight. The DCUtv 24 Hour Broadcast is organised each year for a chosen charity by the DCU Media Production Society (MPS). This year I sit on the committee of MPS, as TV Manager. I oversee all video content that comes from the society but my biggest and most important job of the year is running the 24 Hour Broadcast. The first promotional video we shot to reveal this years charity, the Peter McVerry Trust, did fantastically well and got over 42,000 views on YouTube.

Raising money for homelessness has been something I've been passionate about since my time in Belvedere, I took part in the sleep out two years in a row and I would love to really make a difference with the 24 Hour Broadcast this year. You can watch the event at www.dcumps.com and there will be a "donate now" button just to the right of the stream, that will go live at 9PM tonight. I would massively appreciate any donation you guys could make, it would be incredible if we hit our €5,000 target AND (more importantly) beat last years total of €7,000. It would mean the world to me.

In the TV Studio in DCU tonight at 9PM, first, second and third years will host their own live and pre-recorded shows, ranging from parody game shows, news shows, all out wacky shows and much more. Given the nature of some of the people involved (some are first year media students, complete beginners in terms of content creation) it's certainly not 24 hours of high quality, top-end content, but it's the most fun I've ever had in college and being involved in it for the last two years as a student has been my highlight of being in DCU, simply because of the incredible atmosphere it creates between us students, for such a great cause. It's 24 hours of madness in DCU, with close to 300 students involved this year and being in charge of it has been the most stressful couple of months of my life.

From an organisational point, it's nuts. Preparations began over two months ago with weekly two hour meetings, running software and equipment workshops, shooting adverts to be used on the night, getting sponsorship to look after 300 students on the night in terms of food and drink etc. Not to mention running a fully equipped TV studio and organising live streaming software to be used with YouTube.
