Leinster Schools Indoor Championships

for Elements and Rudiments

Belvedere College SJ athletes performed with distinction at the Leinster Schools Indoor Championships for first and second year students.

Second years participated in long jump, 200 metres and relay. Louis Gaughan (Rudiments Finlay) won the long jump out of a huge field of 120 athletes. He jumped 5 m and 21 cm. Evan Lynch (Rudiments Finlay) finished in second place with a personal best leap of 5 m and 1 cm. Peter Barun (Rudiments Aylmer) made it to the final, placing 9th with a leap of 4.48 m.

We had a number of fine performances in the 200 metres. There was a staggering 18 heats in this event with athletes running for positions and times. Notable performances included Bailey Scanlan (Rudiments Xavier) with 27.8 seconds, Louis Gaughan (Rudiments Finlay) with 26.2 seconds, Evan Lynch (Rudiments Finlay) with 26.8, Peter Barun (Rudiments Aylmer) with 28.1 seconds and Domhnall Rogers (Rudiments Kenny) with 27.1 seconds, all winning their heats. Medals were awarded to the fastest three over all 18 heats. Gaughan, Lynch and Rogers were 5th, 6th and 8th fastest respectively, overall.

Other good runs from second years participating in 200 metres included strong second place performances from James Connolly (Rudiments Loyola), Abdul Adesanya (Rudiments Xavier) and Harry Gormley (Rudiments Finlay). The relay team of Rogers, Gaughan, Lynch and Scanlan finished 7th overall out of 42 schools.

First year students of Eóin McDermott (Xavier), Harry Kelly (Aylmer), Patrick Foley (Loyola), Harry Ennis (Aylmer), Lucas Thompson (Scully), Fionn Magner (Xavier), Conor O'Brien (Kenny), Charles Coyle (Loyola) and Matthew Doyle (Finlay) were competitive in their events without placing.
