Track and Field Success

Belvedere had a super two days in Santry at the Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships

Louis Gaughen in Elements work very hard to qualify in two all Ireland events. He will be Belvo's first Minor Athlete to compete at All Irelands.

Bill Costello qualified in the race walk, one of the toughest events. Bill is very new to this event, just taking it up this year. Darragh Doran won his triple Jump after a 4th place in the discus. Morgan Brennan took gold in that Discus as well as a Hammer silver with Cathal Dunne claiming the Hammer Gold. Euan Smith and Simon Barrett qualified in third place in the Javelin and Pole Vault respectively.

Daniel Stone finished 2nd in 3000m with an excellent run and John Fanning won the Steeplechase. These two were part of the All Ireland winning Cross Country Team. Scot Meaney and Fionn McGrane both jumped to victory in the Long and Triple Jump. Superb performances from Eoghan Murphy, Dylan O Grady and Hugh Flood saw them pick up silver medals in Discus, Pole Vault and Hammer.

Augustyn Tchorzewski finished the day a Double Gold medalist - Long and Triple jump  and will reach his first All Ireland. Johnny Bell took some big scalps to win two silvers in Discus and Shot. Seasoned Tullamore competitor, Evan Mitchell set the tone on the second day with a terrific win in the Hammer. The ever so dependable Daniel Byrne qualified in 3rd for the Walk. And Pascal Ryan finished 5th in both 100m and 200m. Pascal has been a great servant to Belvo Athletics.

Two special mentions must go to Cian Maher, who not only finished 6th in his Triple jump, but has helped coach and organise our younger jumpers for the last few months. He has been an incredible help to Brendan and the College. And also to Liam Connaughton, who is one of the top javelin throwers in the country but could not compete this year due to injury. Instead he helped and coached our younger throwers and officiated on Wednesday and Saturday.

Next stop is  the All Ireland Final which will be held in Tullamore on Saturday June 2nd.

Thank you for all your support during the year

Ronan, Brendan, Phil and Colin
