Student Enterprise Programme

Dublin City Final

By: Samuel Lynch (Syntax Scully)

In Transition Year (TY), we have the opportunity to participate in Young Entrepreneurs as an activity on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This module helps us develop our business skills by building our own mini companies and products.

After months of hard work, two teams from Belvedere got through to the Student Enterprise Programme’s Dublin City Final in Croke Park. This competition gives young entrepreneurs the opportunity to present their own original ideas.

The first Belvedere team created a plastic water bottle alternative that uses natural ingredients like seaweed and beeswax to create a single-use bottle. They called their product the AGbottle. The second group created a website called MyBarber that would allow anyone to access live queue times and offers from barbershops.

After weeks of preparation, we arrived at Croke Park where we put together our own stands and presented our products to the judges. At the end of the event, the AGbottle took home the Innovation Award.

Both teams were given a great deal of advice on how to advance our products into the future and it was an all-around amazing experience, one I doubt any of us will forget.
