“To be perfectly honest, when the idea of Spanish debating was first introduced to me, I wasn’t all too keen on the idea. But sure, I applied anyway, just for the sake of it, and suddenly, I was on the team. Public speaking was never really for me, but after all the hard work that Ms. Siggins and Ms. Daly had put into preparing us, and with continuous practice, I became more and more confident, as did the rest of the team. Of course, it wasn’t all boring preparation for the debates (in fact, it was actually quite lively) but it was a great chance to get to know the rest of the team as well.
The debates aren’t only an opportunity to practise your Spanish, but to see how well you can speak in front of a crowd – which is always a handy skill to have. But most of all, for those like me, who are completely useless at music or sport, it’s a really good way of representing the school. Sure, it takes hard work, but so does anything else worth doing. I’d suggest that anyone who’s even remotely interested should apply, you never know, it might just be for you!”
