Belvedere College - Neven Maguire 2017

Neven Maguire 2017

Neven Maguire 2017

The Home Ec. Department funded by the parents’ association were delighted to welcome back celebrity chef Neven Maguire for a live cookery demonstration to the O’Reilly Theatre on Wednesday March 15th 2017, to raise funds for a worthy cause Jigsaw-  The National Centre for Youth Mental Health.
There was a great atmosphere and buzz around the College in the lead up to and on the evening itself. The Home Economics students prepared food such as black pudding and potato focaccias, chorizo and goats cheese frittatas and homemade ginger cookies. They very enthusiastically welcomed and served our guests upon arrival to the event and during the interval.
Artisan food stalls added an extra element to the evening showcasing some of the finest Irish food products on the market today. Some also very generously donated a number of raffle prizes on the night.
Neven was a pleasure to watch as he entertained and introduced the audience to a range of dishes and flavours. Two lucky guests were invited to share in his culinary delights at the chefs table.
The students were engaged from the moment the night began and Neven even allowed two students, Conor Carolan and Sam Lynch McNabb to volunteer to take part in some sugar craft under the master guidance of Neven, a moment they will treasure forever!
The raffle generated a lot of excitement as Neven donated a prize of dinner for two in MacNean House & Restaurant. Other raffle prizes included; a gift Voucher for Ballymaloe Cookery school, Pichet restaurant, Aqua restaurant, Case of red wine, Hessian Hair & Beauty Voucher, Coole Swan Liquor and Donegal Rapeseed Gifts.
The students also donated a selection of gifts to Neven: Home Economics students were busy making and sewing personalised cushions for Neven and his twins. They also presented two samples of our very own Belvedere Honey.
Marie Browne a daughter of the Author of ‘All in the cooking’ – one of the first Home Economics booked used in Ireland also presented a signed copy to Neven. Needless to say he was very impressed with their generosity.
Overall it was an enjoyable and successful evening and there was €5000 raised and donated to the charity. A big Thanks to all who supported the event in particular Orla Brodrick and Karen O’Kelly without whom without it would not have been possible.
Thank you to all involved.
